Art Card - The Magic Circle. This card is printed on high quality heavy-weight card, with a quality, textured envelope, and is blank inside for your own message. Reproduced from an original painting by John William Waterhouse, and was a Chantrey Bequest purchase for £650 in 1886.

The Chantrey Bequest was a large sum of money (£105,000) received under the will of Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey, to be held in trust for the president and trustees of the Royal Academy, the income to be devoted to the encouragement of British fine art in painting and sculpture only, by "the purchase of works of fine art of the highest merit ... that can be obtained.". The funds could not accumulate for more than five years; works could be by British or foreign artists, dead or living, so long as such works were entirely executed within the shores of Great Britain, the artists having been in residence there during such execution and completion.
